End of Year Tax Receipts

If the person has already received an official donation receipt, you legally can't issue them a new one unless the old one was cancelled. In the old days, you could have the person return the paper receipt and write "cancelled on it." But now that they're digital, we really can't.

You can send kind of an Annual Giving Report that will list their basic donations for the year. It's not sophisticated and doesn't handle gifts-in-kind, but if your donors have regular cash donations, that would tell them how much their gifts for the year add up to.

I've just learned that if you don't check the box that allows cumulative receipts on the form, the donor will only get individual receipts each time. To change this, you need to enable the option, and the donor must then use the new form to get the cumulative receipt - you can't change the existing recurring gift to get one receipt a year from my understanding. Remember to cancel the previous recurring gift if the donor decides to go this route or they will have two payments.

As I understand it, once enabled on the form, any new donors will have the option of single or cumulative receipts.

Took me a while to track down this info and I hope it helps you too!
