Mission Assistant in Reports lets you ask questions about your donors and giving in plain language. You can get a quick answer in chat, or a full report with a summary, charts and tables that you can download as a PDF or CSV.
Mission Assistant is in open beta, so you'll see a Beta tag next to it. Everyone whose role can already see Reports in Keela can use it. There's nothing to turn on.
Mission Assistant is read-only. It creates answers and reports, but it doesn't change your data, create segments, update contacts or send outreach. Your existing reports and dashboards stay exactly as they are.
Open Mission Assistant
- Select Reports in Keela's side menu.
- Reports opens on the Mission Assistant tab. Your existing dashboards are on the Dashboards tab next to it.
Ask a question in chat
- Type your question in the box that says "Ask a question about your data or generate a report...". For example: "How much did we raise last month?"
- Select the send arrow. Mission Assistant replies with a short answer. Under the answer, it shows what it counted and the date range it used, so you can check it matches what you meant.
- To keep going, select one of the suggested follow-up questions under the answer, or type your own follow-up. Follow-ups keep the context of your conversation.
- If chat can't answer your question inline, it builds a full report for you instead.
Changed your mind while an answer is loading? Select Stop. Your question goes back into the box so you can edit it or send it again.
Create a full report
There are three ways to get a full report.
From a chat answer
- Under an answer, select Create detailed report.
- When the report is ready, chat tells you it's saved in Past reports. Select View report.
- The report opens in a panel beside your chat, so you can keep the conversation going.
By describing it
Type what you need in the question box, for example "Generate a report of lapsed donors", and select the send arrow.
From a template
On the Mission Assistant tab, under Or choose a template to get started, select one of the five built-in templates:
- Last 12-Month Giving
- Fiscal Year-Over-Year Giving Comparison
- Top Donors by Giving
- Lapsed Donors (LYBUNT)
- Donor Retention
Read and work with your report
Each report starts with a short summary and key figures, followed by charts and tables.
- Resize the panel: drag the handle between the chat and the report to make either side wider.
- Full screen: select the expand button at the top of the report. Select it again to return to the side-by-side view. In full-screen view, select Open chat to ask follow-up questions about the report.
- Rename: select the pencil next to the report title.
- Rate it: rate the report to tell us whether it was helpful.
Mission Assistant can make mistakes. Before you use a report, check the date range, filters, figures and tables, and make sure the summary matches what you see.
Download a report
- Select the download button at the top of the report.
- Choose PDF or CSV, then select Download.
The CSV download is a ZIP file with one CSV for each table in the report.
By default, the report, the PDF and the CSV (ZIP) download include only the top 50 rows of each table. To get every row, ask the chat for a full CSV export, for example "Export every donor's total giving this fiscal year versus last fiscal year". Chat confirms with you before it creates the file. A size limit applies.
[Image: Download report dialog showing the format picker and the note "This file will only include the top 50 rows of each table. Need everything? Ask Mission Assistant in the chat for a full CSV export." No existing media shows this dialog. Capture a new screenshot.]
To share a report, download it, review it, and share the file outside Keela the way you usually would. You can't email a report or share a link to it from Keela.
Find past reports and chats
At the top right of the Mission Assistant tab:
- Select Past reports to see the reports you've created, with the date and time of each. Search by report name, open a report, or download it.
- Select Past chats to go back to an earlier conversation.
Reports you create with Mission Assistant are kept in Past reports. They don't appear on the Dashboards tab.
Good to know
- Who can use it: anyone whose role can already see Reports. Mission Assistant doesn't change who can see Reports.
- It's read-only. It doesn't change any data in Keela.
- Your existing reports and dashboards don't change. They're still on the Dashboards tab.
- What it can answer questions about:
- Contacts and donors
- Donations and gifts, including giving by campaign, impact area and source
- Lifetime and year-over-year giving totals
- Donation analysis, such as first-time vs returning donors and gift-size bands
- Donor retention and lapsed donors (LYBUNT)
- Receipt details on gifts, such as receipt number and status
- Memberships
- Volunteers
- Households
- Not included in the beta: tags, pledges, soft credits, to-dos, interactions, forms, emails, custom fields and keywords. Mission Assistant can't answer questions about this data yet.
- 50 rows per table: reports, PDFs and the CSV (ZIP) download include only the top 50 rows of each table. Ask the chat for a full CSV export to get every row.
- Templates: there are five built-in templates. Saving your own report as a template is coming later.
- Editing a past report: you can't edit or regenerate a past report. Start a new prompt instead, or ask the chat to generate an updated version of the report.
- Sharing: download the file and share it outside Keela. Emailing reports and sharing links from Keela aren't available.
- Always review the results. Mission Assistant can make mistakes, so check the figures before you share or act on them.
Troubleshooting
I can't see Mission Assistant. What should I do?
Mission Assistant follows your existing Reports permissions. If your role can see Reports in Keela's side menu, select it and you'll land on the Mission Assistant tab, marked Beta. There's nothing to turn on.
If you can't see Reports at all, your role doesn't have Reports access. Mission Assistant doesn't change who can see Reports, so ask the person who manages user roles in your organization.
My report says "Generation failed". How do I try again?
Sometimes a report doesn't finish building. When that happens, it shows Generation failed in your Past reports list, and you can't download it.
- On the Mission Assistant tab, select Past reports at the top right.
- Find the report that shows Generation failed.
- Select the retry button on that row. Mission Assistant builds the report again from the same prompt.

If the report keeps failing, or every prompt you try fails, contact our support team through the in-app chat.
Why does my report only show 50 rows?
This is expected. By default, reports, PDFs and the CSV (ZIP) download include only the top 50 rows of each table. To get every row, ask the chat for a full CSV export. It confirms with you before it creates the file.
Why can't Mission Assistant answer about some of my data?
Tags, pledges, soft credits, to-dos, interactions, forms, emails, custom fields and keywords aren't included in the beta, so Mission Assistant can't answer questions that depend on them yet.
When you ask about something it can't help with, chat tells you so and suggests example questions you can select instead. Nothing is built.
[Image: Chat showing a "can't help with that" reply with clickable example questions. No existing media shows this. Capture a new screenshot.]
What if Mission Assistant doesn't support my question?
Some questions use data that's included but ask for something Mission Assistant can't do yet. For example, filtering a donor list by campaign may not be supported.
When part of your question is supported, chat may show a few options for what it can build. For example, if you ask for "top donors and their volunteer hours", it might offer "Top donors only". Nothing is built until you pick an option.
If chat can't help with your question:
- Try rephrasing it, or split it into smaller questions.
- Start from one of the five templates.
- Your existing reports and dashboards are still available on the Dashboards tab.
The numbers don't look right. What should I check?
- Under the answer, check what was counted and the Date range used. Make sure they match what you meant.
- In a full report, check the dates, filters, figures and tables, and make sure the summary matches.
- If something's off, ask again with more detail, such as the exact date range.
If the numbers still look wrong, contact our support team through the in-app chat so we can look into it.
