Has anyone figured out a way to deal with middle initials messing up search results?

I keep running into an issue where Jane Doe calls in to make a donation and when I go to search her name I get zero results. However, after searching Doe and going through a whole list of donors I'll see that her name is actually Jane A. Doe. Since there's no way to tell the system to only search first and last name, I'm wondering if anyone has found a work around?
