Before jumping into these step-by-step report guides, we recommend checking out our How to Use Filters Training Video. Filters are the back-bone of every report, so understanding which filters to use and how to use them will be essential for mastering any report!
You can build contact reports or export contact data from two tools: Our Contacts Tool and our Reports tool. Keep in mind, when building a contact report, you are pulling a list of contacts. If you want to look at this data on a transactional-level, you would need to create a Transaction Report.
One-Time Gift Givers
Example: I want to see a list of Contacts who have donated for the first time.
Navigate to Reports > Click Create Dashboard > Choose Custom Contacts Report > Click Next > Add Filters
Choose the Is between filter logic > Place a 1 in both fields > Click Save

Contacts Whose First Gift was within a Specific Time Period
Example: I want to see a list of Contacts who have donated for the first time between 2021-2022.
Navigate to Reports > Click Create Dashboard > Choose Custom Contacts Report > Click Next > Add Filters
Choose the First Gift filter > Indicate your Transaction Type (Donation, Revenues or Both) and indicate your data range!
Keela will pull up the full list of contacts who have given their first gift within this period.

Active Recurring Donors
Example: I want to see a list of Contacts who have active recurring donations with my organization.
Navigate to Reports> Click Create Dashboard> Choose One-Click> Click Active Recurring donors > Click Next

Contacts who Donated Within a Certain Period
Example: I want to see a list of Contacts who have donated in 2020.
Navigate to Reports > Click Create Dashboard > Choose Custom Contacts Report > Click Next > Add Filters
Choose the Donation Transaction Date Received filter > Is Between > [Date Range]

Contacts who have not Donated in a Certain Period
Example: I want to see a list of contacts who haven't given in two years.
Were going to build two reports in order to achieve this result.
Navigate to Reports> Click Create Create Dashboard > Choose Custom> Click Custom Contacts Report> Click Next
Click Filters > Choose Donation Transactions > Choose Date Received > Indicate date range for the period in question (ex. past two years) > Save report
Now, create another Custom Contacts report.
Click Filters > Choose Contact Segment > Does not contain any of > [Name of previous report]
Now you have a list of contacts who have not given in an outlined period!

Contacts who Dedicated their Donation
Example: I want to see a list of Contacts who opted to put a dedication for their donation.
Navigate to Reports> Click Create Create Dashboard > Choose Custom> Click Custom Contacts Report> Click Next
Click Filters > Choose Donation Transactions > Choose Dedication

Contacts who Dedicated their Donation to something specific
Example: I want to see a list of Contacts who donated to a specific person
Navigate to Reports> Click Create Dashboard > Choose Custom > Click Custom Contacts Report > Click Next
Choose the Contains any of logic > Choose/search for the specific dedication you're looking for > Click Filter

Contacts without a Primary Email Address
Example: I want to see a list of Contacts who don't have a primary email address so that I can send them an end of year thank you letter.
Navigate to Reports> Click Create Dashboard> Choose Custom> Click Custom Contacts Report > Click Next
Click Filters > Choose Contacts > Click Primary Email > Click Filter
To see Contacts who DO have a Primary Email Address, choose the Is filled filter logic > Click Filter
To see Contacts who DO NOT have a Primary Email Address, choose the Is empty filter logic > Click Filter

Contacts who have donated a total amount (or more)
Navigate to Reports> Click Create Dashboard> Choose Custom > Click Custom Contacts Report > Click Next
Click Filters > Choose Donation Transactions> Click Total Amount of Gift - Summation
Choose the Is between filter logic > Enter your minimum amount in the Greater than or equal to field > Enter a figure in the Less than or equal to field or leave it blank if you would like it to be infinite. > Click Filter
Contacts Who Have Donated in One Time Period, But not Another
Example: I want to see a list of contacts who donated in 2020 or 2021, but not 2022.
Navigate to Reports> Click Create Dashboard> Choose One-Click > Input Years
Click Save
Now you have a list of contacts who gave in one time period, but not another!

Contacts Who Have Never Donated
Example: I want to see a list of contacts who have never made a donation to my organization.
Navigate to Reports> Click Create Dashboard> Choose Custom > Click Custom Contacts Report > Click Next
Click Filters > Choose Donation Transactions > Frequency > Is Empty
Click Save
