In our previous articles, we've talked about how all of the different buttons, features, and interfaces of the Campaigns tool work. Those articles are designed to show you how something works, at a glance. In this article, we're looking at the high-level process of setting up a campaign and directing you towards the specific articles that you'll need to do this!
Step 1 - Brainstorm and Action Plan!
Before you begin, it's important to have a clear idea of what your Campaign Goals are and how you're going to accomplishing them. Spend some time outlining the below information - you will be able to use this as a reference point when creating your Campaign in Keela later on - promise!
|Campaign Name||A clear and concise name to call your Campaign. Make sure it's something that you and your team members will be able to understand when viewing this in Keela!||Giving Tuesday 2020|
|Campaign Purpose||What are you hoping to achieve? Why?||We aim to raise $2000 to contribute towards our Christmas Food Shelter program.|
|Campaign Fundraising Goal||If your Campaign is a fundraiser, how much money would you like to raise?||$2000|
|Campaign Due Date||When are you hoping to finish your Campaign? It could be dependent on a specific date or perhaps the current year that you're in.||December 4th, 2020|
|Who will be working on the Campaign||Got a team ready to take on this fundraiser or are you a one-person show? It's important to know who will be responsible for achieving your purpose!||Elsie Coffey, Laura Taves|
|How will you communicate the Campaign to your Contacts?||Many Campaigns involve reaching out to your donors, contacts, volunteers or sponsors to encourage them to support you. If this is the case, how will you reach out to them? How often?||3 mass email (E-blast) to all Contacts over 3 week period.|
|How will you collect funds?||If your Campaign involves raising funds, how will you accept payments?||Online, via a Keela Donation Website. This will be shared on our website and in the E-blast.|
|What will happen once you reach your goal?||Whatever your Campaign targets might be, it's important to share your success and provide closure to your Contacts!||Send out a final mass email (E-blast) to those who donated or volunteered to/for the Campaign.|
Now that you have an outline of how your Campaign is going to look, why not sketch out a rough timeline of the events that will take place to achieve your goal. It doesn't need to be too fancy as you'll be entering it into the Keela Projects tool later! You can use the below timeline as a guide but feel free to make changes or start from scratch. You know your organization best!

Step 2 - Create a Project in Keela
Now that you've got a rough outline of your timeline sketched out, you'll be able to add a new Project for your Campaign in Keela. Don't forget to add each individual Task and deadline to the Project and make sure everyone knows what they need to do!
Step 3 - Create a Campaign
Remember when we asked you to brainstorm all of the details of your Campaign? Yes? We do too! Here's where it will come in handy.
Step 4 - Create an E-blast Template
An E-blast template is a great way to create an outline for an email that you're going to be sending a lot of. You can create the basic structure of your E-blast and make sure that all of the colors and branding are in place. Then, when it's time to send your E-blast, most of the work will already be done for you!
Step 5 - Create a Donation or Revenue Form
You may already have a Keela Donation Form published on your website that you would like to use for this Campaign - that's completely fine! But if you would like to keep all of the Donations and Revenue Payments that you receive separate from your everyday donations, we recommend creating a new form that is linked directly to your Campaign. This way, any payments that are received through the form will be automatically attributed to your Campaign - easy peasy!
Important Note: Be sure to connect your new Donation Form to the Campaign that you created back in Step 3.
Step 6 - Create and Send E-blasts
It's time to share the news of your fundraiser with your Contacts! You can create a new E-blast and select your pre-made template to start with!
Important Note: Be sure to connect your new E-blast to the Campaign that you created back in Step 3.
Step 8 - Review Your Campaign
The Campaign tool in Keela will automatically keep track of any funds that are received through Donation/Revenue forms that have been linked to your Campaign. You'll be able to track your progress and report on your fundraising goal from here!
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I want to log donations or revenue payments that weren't received through a form (ie. cash, cheque)?
Sure thing! These donations can be manually logged directly into your Keela account. When logging them, you have the option of associating them with a Campaign!
My donation or revenue payment is appearing on my Campaign totals - ahhhhh!
If a transaction isn't appearing in your Campaign it means that it has not been associated with it. There are a couple of places to check and update this, depending on where the donation came from.
- Through a Keela Form - This means that the Keela Form itself hasn't been connected and the donations that are received through it will not be attributed to your campaign.
